Piston & Rod Services Process

Component Incoming

Customers bring their piston and connecting rod sets to our facility for a complete assessment and reconditioning service.

Inspection, Cleaning, and Scheduling

Each component is thoroughly cleaned to remove carbon and oil deposits. We then inspect pistons for cracks, scuffing, and ring land damage. Connecting rods are magnafluxed to check for stress cracks and are measured for straightness and twist. Following this detailed evaluation, we create a service plan and schedule the work.

Reconditioning Process

Merdeka Precision provides a comprehensive suite of piston and connecting rod services, including:

Connecting Rod Reconditioning: Precisely resizing the big-end housing of the connecting rod to restore perfect roundness and the correct press fit for the bearing shells.
Pin Bushing Replacement: Removing the old wrist pin bushing from the small end, pressing in a new one, and honing it to the exact clearance required for the new piston pin.
Piston & Rod Balancing: Weighing each piston and rod assembly and carefully removing minute amounts of material to ensure the entire set is weight-matched. This is critical for eliminating vibrations and reducing stress on the crankshaft.
Rod Straightening & Alignment: Checking and correcting any bends or twists in the connecting rods to ensure proper piston travel and prevent premature wear on cylinder walls.
Piston Cleaning & Inspection: Utilizing glass-bead blasting to safely clean piston crowns and skirts, followed by a final inspection before assembly.

QC Inspection & Final Assembly

After service, all components undergo a final quality inspection. We verify the dimensions of the big-end and small-end bores, confirm the final weight balance of the set, and ensure perfect rod alignment. The pistons are then professionally assembled onto the rods, ready for installation, guaranteeing they meet our stringent standards for quality and performance.
